We are pleased to announce that SMBC Kyoto University Studio has decided on the selected research themes aimed at solving social problems, for which we solicited applications from December 2024 to February 2025.
Diverse research projects selected for implementation in society
SMBC Kyoto University Studio places importance on dialogue with society, and as a place of co-creation that promotes research with an eye toward commercialization, it publicly solicited new research themes that will lead to the resolution of social issues from Kyoto University faculty, staff, and students. A wide range of proposals that will contribute to the resolution of modern social issues were received, regardless of academic field or approach, and from these, research themes that aim to be implemented in society together with the SMBC Group were selected. In particular, in order to foster and produce researchers who will work to solve social issues, applications were actively accepted from students and young researchers who are working on challenging research with free ideas.
Aiming to contribute to social change
Two applications were accepted for the "Co-Creation Course," which is a joint venture with the Japan Research Institute, and four were accepted for the "Discovery Course," which aims to conduct joint ventures to verify research hypotheses that will lead to the resolution of social issues. The accepted themes will be used in collaboration with the SMBC Group to begin concrete efforts toward social implementation. Details of each theme will be published on the SMBC Kyoto University Studio website at a later date.
