(Event held on March 4th) How can we update the "systems" and "norms" of society?
- Solving social issues at the SMBC Kyoto University Studio -

studio

The challenges facing modern society are becoming increasingly complex and serious, making it difficult to find breakthroughs to resolve them through the pursuit of short-term profits or through conventional methods.

The SMBC Kyoto University Studio, a co-creation hub established in July 2024 through collaboration between Kyoto University and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, is a new form of industry-academia collaboration that creates businesses that lead to solving social issues.
With a vision of "a workshop of cross-border co-creation that updates the "systems" and "norms" of society," we involve people from various fields, primarily researchers from financial groups and think tanks, and work together from research to implementation.

At this event, we will welcome as guests pioneers who have implemented their research results in society and rewritten what is considered "common sense."
The keynote speech was given by Dr.Masayo Takahashi of Vision Care Co., Ltd.will be speaking.
The talk session will feature a discussion on supporting companies aiming to commercialize university knowledge.Nobuhiro Yagi of Kyoto University Innovation Capital Co., Ltd.We will discuss the importance of cross-border and co-creative spaces to pioneer a new society.

Now in its second year of operation, the SMBC Kyoto University Studio is currently embarking on a number of challenges.
This "studio" has yet to produce any completed works, and we are currently in the midst of repeated trial and error with the aim of implementing them in society. This is why we would like to take this opportunity to deepen discussions with like-minded people about the role and potential of the SMBC Kyoto University Studio.

On the day, we will share the future vision of SMBC Kyoto University Studio, as well as the current status of ongoing projects.
<Examples of the society the project aims to create>
A society where developmental characteristics are accepted as part of individuality
A society where children can receive an education that will help them overcome life's challenges
A society where everyone can spend their final moments in a way that is satisfying and true to themselves
A society in which truly carbon-neutral decarbonization solutions are widespread
A society that realizes sustainable medical and nursing care through the power of AI

After the lectures and talk sessions, a poster exhibition will be held from 4:15 PM, as a venue-exclusive program. You will have the opportunity to speak directly with project representatives about the details of their research and future prospects. Please join us for this opportunity that can only be enjoyed at a physical venue.

We hope to combine our company's business fields with the activities of the SMBC Kyoto University Studio. We want to make an impact on society through co-creation. We are interested in the very nature of this new "workshop." We hope to work with you to take the next step forward.
